Key Objectives & Benefits for the Common Data Platform

Delivering the Common Data Platform is considered a program as it will consist of a group of related projects that are managed in a coordinated way to obtain objectives and benefits that would be unlikely if managed individually.  These shared aims ensure that resources involved understand how efforts across different workstreams (i.e. projects) of the CDP contributes to the broader goal over the years.

Key Objectives

Objectives represent the desired outcomes that the program is designed to deliver.  These are strategic in nature and provide a framework for guiding the workstreams within CDP.

  1. Centralize and Secure Enterprise Data
    1. Implement secure automated data pipelines from source to target in near real time
    2. Identify, classify and manage access to sensitive data
  2. Develop an Enterprise Data Model, a single source of facts
    1. Supporting integrated data at scale from multiple domains
    2. Collaboratively and transparently develop curated trusted data available for reporting, analytics, and sharing
  3. Develop and implement a Data Stewardship & Governance Program
    1. Proper data stewardship and governance will promote a thorough understanding of the data which will translate into accurate data definitions and be easily shared across the university’s information systems.
  4. Improved Information Experience for decision makers, consumers, and engineers
    1. Bring actionable insights and visualization to the decision makers through modern Business Intelligence tools
    2. Develop career paths for aspiring professionals in data analyst and analytics engineering roles
